House Of Cards “Chapter Twenty-Three”

I think this is one of those episodes where some stuff happens, but I don’t really have much to say.

I mean, what happened here?  If we knock everything down to the rape law and the fight between Frank and Tusk, then we have something, but we’re in a holding pattern.

For one thing, Frank, agreeing with Sleazy Seth over Doug, decides to push the way Tusk has been using foreign money to influence American elections out into the open.  That causes problems for a lot of people since Frank and his party had unknowingly been taking that money for ages prior to Tusk turning on the party.  Walker is convinced to get a special prosecutor.  I’m sure that will end well, since it was what Frank had actually wanted while saying it was a bad idea.

The home audience should know by now that whenever Frank says doing something is a bad idea, it’s probably what he really wants after all.  Most of the characters on this show haven’t realized that yet.  Linda did, but she’s gone.

As for the rape legislation, it turns out Jackie Sharp, Frank’s replacement as Majority Whip, is against it.  Why?  Well, she doesn’t say off-hand, but most likely it is because as a former member of the military, she believes like many military people do to keep their investigations in-house and not involve outsiders.  Staying within the chain of command is important.  But she never says that, so while both Claire and Frank try to persuade her otherwise, even with Frank learning through his former secretary that Jackie is dating Remy Danton, she doesn’t seem to be budging on this yet.

That relationship is going somewhere.  Where?  For the characters, I don’t know, but both Remy and Jackie are being pressured by their respective superiors, as Tusk wants Remy to dig up dirt on the House leadership.  Something will probably break there.

Oh, and hacker dude got into Doug’s cell.

But clearly, we’re only headed towards the fireworks at the end now.
