One hour before the wedding, and Rachel has a plan.
It’s not a good plan, but it’s a plan.
See, Rachel’s great aunt survived the curse. She got married and then lived for another few decades. She possessed Portia and spit out that Rachel needs something living, something dead, something stolen, and something red. Also, she might want to keep Victoria alive. It’s probably bad luck for the groom’s mother to die on the day of the wedding.
So, what does Rachel have to gather?
OK, that Witness creep showed up. Rachel goes to talk to him, gives him a handshake, and cuts him for some blood. That’s red.
Victoria isn’t awake yet, and Rachel convinces Boris not to pull the plug just yet. Rachel swipes some hair. That’s stolen.
She gets Julian, who apparently is a doctor (did I know that) to work with Nell to severe one of Rachel’s pinky toes. That’s dead.
And she makes up with Nicky, collecting some sperm after the make-up sex. Something living.
Mix it all together, you get a love potion. Now she just has to drink it. That sounds gross.
Granted, the fun of the episode is Rachel’s frantic running around the house as she gathers the ingredients. There’s some really fluid camera movement, and the episode takes time to do some character bits when Jude can’t find the wedding rings, and Nell and Julian loan theirs. It’s a short moment as Portia had the rings for safe keeping and forgot to tell anyone, meaning the sweet looks Julian and Nell give each other as they put their rings back makes them probably the best couple on this show.
Then again, Portia tried to cancel the wedding because…well, she’s mad she was possessed, but also she seems to have forgotten she doesn’t get to decide whether or not a wedding gets cancelled because it isn’t her wedding. It’s why I think Rachel had to be lying when she said she loved the Cunninghams because Portia has been nothing but an annoying pain-in-the-ass the whole time. At least Julian turned out to be an ally when the chips were down.
Anyway, the first episode had a cold open that showed a room with a lot screaming, so I think something very bad is going to happen.
