Well…here’s an episode I really don’t want to talk about.
Oh, it was funny. Unbelievably funny. The more I watch, the better the show gets. It’s more like the subject matter here is something I don’t feel comfortable typing out. The episode ends with Larry’s going to the doctor (hey, Randall Park!), discussing the rash he picked up, and the largely innocuous explanation for how he got it, but because he repeats the use of a word that he overheard a little girl’s mother use, the doctor tells his receptionist to call the cops. That is absolutely the right call based on what Larry said. It’s funny, and totally in-keeping with the sort of stories that Curb Your Enthusiasm often tells.
And I am in no way, shape, or form going to say more than that here.
Then again, this is the episode where Michael Richards gets involved in a plotline that pokes fun at his unfortunate incident where he shouted a racial slur and ruined his reputation. I mean, I might get mad at Leon too if he made up a bunch of obvious nonsense to offer as comfort for someone who may have contracted Groat’s disease. Then again, Groat’s disease is a fictional ailment, so what do I know? Maybe Leon’s hat can keep a man alive.
As it is, this episode is about the rehearsals for the Seinfeld reunion, and I gotta say, it works a lot like a real episode. Sure, beyond the main cast, there are some nice appearances from Estelle Harris, Steve Hynter, and (especially) Wayne Knight. Those scenes are funny, and yeah, it doesn’t make sense how Funkhouser got into the rehearsal space or why his outright disgusting joke would amuse Jerry enough to merit an open invitation to hang out there, but this is a comedy show.
Ultimately, I really enjoyed this episode. I just don’t feel comfortable talking about it.
