Pluribus “Please, Carol”

Season One, Episode Four

Huh.  The previous episode had Carol attempt to contact a man in Paraguay who was also not in the collective, but he didn’t want to talk to her.  She ended up cussing him out, but the Spanish wasn’t translated as I recall.

Anyway, the subtitles for this episode did the translating.

Well, if Carol is unpleasant to the hive mind, Manousos is maybe all that plus paranoid.  I think I wanna know more about this guy.  That makes sense as he’s writing down radio frequencies for some reason.

But what about Carol?  Well…she got a police car!  And now she has a new project to try and understand the Others even as they clean up the debris from her own house.  Oh, there’s the mayor of Albuquerque, playing himself.  Now, Carol doesn’t have a science degree, but she does know how to think things through.  Interrogating one guy tells her the Others can’t lie to her, even if it is what Helen thought of Carol’s work.  Zosia, asked point-blank, won’t answer when Carol asks if the process is reversible, meaning it is.  She just won’t say why, only that being part of the hive mind is great.

I do like Carol’s point about consent here.  It’s a real point of contention.  These people will get Carol whatever she wants (even heroin), but they won’t tell her how to reverse the effects of the hive-mind nor ask Carol if she wants to be a part of it.

Well, there’s always truth serum!

Wait, that stuff is real?

Apparently.  She tries to drug Zosia into telling her how to reverse the effects, and…well, there’s a mob chanting the episode’s title, and Zosia has a heart attack.  That didn’t work, but I didn’t expect it to.  How is Carol supposed to surprise these people when they are literally everywhere?

I still don’t know what the hive mind does if they ever get everyone under its control.  I feel like there’s a point to that, and Carol isn’t asking it.  Nor is anyone telling her.  They’re just…unnervingly happy.  Like Jimmy on payday.
