Curb Your Enthusiasm “Funkhouser’s Crazy Sister”

Season Seven, Episode One

Well, that was fast.  Larry finds a new girlfriend, and he’s already looking to end things.

That’s so Larry.

See, Larry’s joy that he has the Blacks as family has finally run its course.  That really was fast.  The big problem seems to be Loretta keeps the air conditioner set too warm because Black people prefer warmer temps (Leon backs that up) and Auntie Rae is talking to the neighbors, something Larry never wants to do.  That causes obligations, like the obligations where Larry offers to do anything for Marty Funkhouser’s sister Bam Bam (Catherine O’Hara!) to cheer her up, and Marty insists that he do so.  Larry doesn’t have time for this.  He knows Loretta had a biopsy, and he likewise knows that if its cancer and he doesn’t break up with her before the diagnosis, he can’t break up with someone who has cancer.

See, Larry has some standards.

Anyway, Jeff apparently has no standards because he and Bam Bam have sex when Larry goes out to make a sandwich, the very thing he argued with Loretta’s doctor about.  Likewise, he doesn’t know who’s going to Jeff and Susie’s dinner party because Susie says you should never ask.  Larry’s off-hand comment gets the Funkhousers invited, Loretta’s doctor is there, and Larry is surprised the man is gay because he doesn’t seem gay.  How can things go wrong?

Oh, Bam Bam announces she had sex with Jeff.  Now, Jeff has slept around, and Susie has even tossed him out of the house in the past, but this time, this time, he gets away with it because Bam Bam is, maybe, mentally ill.  Susie actually buys that.  Why?  I don’t know.  She just does.  But Larry has to head out and pick up Loretta’s medicine.  And the call is coming.  He needs to end the relationship before she gets the call!

Then he runs into Cheryl using his name to get into a  restaurant and decides to hang out for a while.

Man, that was not a smart move for a guy who had to get home.  When he does, it turns out Loretta does have cancer, and she’ll need a couple years’ worth of care.  She’s not going anywhere.  Neither is Leon.  Maybe Larry should work on that Seinfeld reunion after all.
