Noteworthy Issues: The Amazing Spider-Man #143 (April, 1975)

Spider-Man goes to France to rescue Jonah Jameson.

Spider-Man is going to Paris!  Will he see Gwen there?

I dunno.  He finally kissed MJ.  Good for him.

Issue:  The Amazing Spider-Man #143, April 1975

Writer:  Gerry Conway

Artist:  Ross Andru

Travel Agent:  Jimmy Impossible

The Plot:  Spider-Man goes to Paris, looks for Jonah, meets a supervillain.

Commentary:  Huh.  Another new Conway villain.  Cyclone you say?  A guy in blue and yellow with a round chest insignia?  Sounds familiar.  His name is Cyclone, and wait…Cyclone?  Oh wait, now I remember!

Sy-klone!  One of He-Man’s weirdo friends!  I was wondering where this guy came from!  Apparently, he’s French, and he was involved in a horribly stupid attempt to kidnap J Jonah Jameson for…some reason, and then he demanded Joe Robertson bring him the ransom for…some reason, and Joe asked Peter to come along for…some reason, and then when Peter had taken down the supervillain’s henchmen, he knocks out the groggy Joe anyway for…some reason.

OK, the last “some reason” is he doesn’t want Joe to question why Spider-Man is in Paris at the same time as Peter Parker, but man, it sure did look rough.

Now, of course, there’s no sign of Jolly Jonah, and I’m not quite sure why a newspaper has that much money, but I live in 2025.  Newspapers are dying.  Maybe that wasn’t the case in 1975.

But Cyclone got away with Joe, and…wait, how is he supposed to get that ransom now?  That doesn’t make much sense.  He must be dizzy from spinning around way too much.
