The fallout for the Ghorman Massacre continues, and this one…had a crossover with the animated series Rebels?
The crossover is, all things being equal, minor. The main plot here has Cassian smuggling Mon Mothma off Coruscant to Yavin IV. The episode says she then has to go give a speech to unite the Rebellion, but that happens somewhere else. That would be in Rebels, where I found the speech a bit underwhelming when I heard it. If anything, Andor the show and Andor the character aren’t interested in that speech as Mon Mothma disappears as soon as the very idea of the speech comes up.
Still, this is a chickens-come-home-to-roost moment as Mon gives a legitimately good speech on the Senate floor, one that is only sometimes covered in the episode, as people plot to either remove her from the planet safely or from life in a more final manner.
The thing is, Mon isn’t quite used to the sort of fighting that someone like Cassian engages in, leading to moments like the one in this meme:
Honestly, I think that’s hilarious. But it’s true: Mon has been a money person, a political person, but not a fighter. Cassian is at the bottom of the economic ladder when we meet him, and he’s been fighting ever since. Mon can know her driver is an Imperial spy. Cassian will be the one to just shoot the guy in broad daylight. Mon isn’t sure who to trust to escort her out safely, even as Luthen (who admits her aide works for him) says she can’t trust the people Bail Organa hired–Bail is innocent, but his security isn’t–and she eventually goes with Cassian, and his advice is mostly to keep moving even as he has to shoot someone once in a while.
It’s a more realistic sort of moment, not the “politician gives a speech and everyone joins the Rebellion” that I saw in Rebels.
The distrust in Luthen, by the way, is another “you reap what you sow” moment that has been long coming. The guy was instrumental in building the Alliance, but nobody trusts the guy. The Rebellion is taking off without him. And sure, Bix leaves Cassian so he can finish his work with the Rebellion, but he does get new friend when they successfully reboot a reprogrammed K-2SO.
It’s like Rogue One is starting to come together.
