Wonder Man “Yucca Valley”

Series Finale

Wait, that’s it?  What a bummer.  I was really enjoying this one.

Sure, it wasn’t the best episode or series ever, but it was fun and charming.  In the end, Simon’s character arc won over my girlfriend somewhat even as Simon’s break-out performance in the Wonder Man movie won over his brother Eric, seen crying during the movie.  That was a nice touch.

From there, Simon has to help Trevor just as Trevor saved Simon from arrest by claiming responsibility for the studio explosion using the time-honored method of reprising an old role by being the Mandarin again, sending Trevor to the anti-superhuman prison and letting Simon, finally mastering his only vaguely-defined powers, to bust Trevor out, using a very actorly technique to get in: find a guard, pretend he’s researching a part, and convince the guy to take him to work.

I was happy to see Simon anonymously gave the guard a large sum of money to pay medical bills and quit the job, but is that guy still gonna have to answer to someone when they realize the fellow he came in with was missing after someone broke the Mandarin out of the prison?  I mean, maybe?  The show doesn’t say.

I know that’s not really the point, but this was a charming show, and I don’t find myself having much to say because it was so short, sweet, and to the point.  Simon and Trevor had great buddy chemistry, both grew as people, especially Simon, and even if it does end with something of a mysterious note, it still stands somewhat on its own.

9 out of 10 brotherly connections.

Anyway, I think I’ll do a couple Marvel one-offs for the next couple Mondays and then go on to either Dark Matter for its second season or Spider-Noir for its first.  Only time will tell.
