Life, Larry, And The Pursuit Of Unhappiness “McCarthy”

Episode Three

I get the impression that the second sketch in here is basically just a variation on a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.

I’m fine with that.

Let me bring that one out first, even though it was a the second sketch.  Larry’s house is a stop on the Underground Railroad, and an escaped slave named Jonesy (JB Smooth) comes by.  He criticizes Larry’s decor, won’t do any favors because that’s what slavery is, doing favors that aren’t really favors, and he won’t leave. And when his buddies from the Ethan Allen plantation show up, both named after furniture, Jonesy tells them they don’t have to leave either, and no, the big guy will not help Larry remove a stump.

As for the others, the episode opens with Larry as himself, but a barrel-maker in Revolutionary Boston, and he isn’t happy Lin-Manuel Miranda didn’t invite him to a certain tea party.  When he makes a nuisance of himself, the other partiers leave, so Larry opts to throw tea into the harbor himself and gets arrested by redcoats.

That was one impressive set, by the way.

Next, Larry is the forgotten Wright Brother, literally between Wilbur and Orville (Jon Hamm and Sean Hays…now there’s a pair).  He’s stuck in the middle seat, can’t get off the plane when it needs to be repaired even if it takes  hours, has to stow his bag under his seat, only gets crappy peanuts for a snack, and becomes the first man to become airsick.

And in the last sketch, Larry is Senator Joe McCarthy, and when asked by Michael McKean’s Joseph Welch if he has no decency, turns the whole thing around by accusing everyone else of lacking decency for various habits, only to comment on his wife’s bedroom habits on live TV and has to apologize to her, also on live TV.  What a maroon.

Yeah, I think I like this show,
