The Twilight Zone “The Who Of You”

A struggling actor does something drastic and discovers a new skill.

Well, I think the villain of the story, who is also the protagonist, got rewarded here.

All I learned here is you should probably listen to Billy Porter.

Basic Premise:  An out-of-work actor learns he can bodyswap with other people.

Writer:  Win Rosenfeld

Commentary:  Struggling actor and somewhat self-centered woe-is-me type Harry Pine can’t get a job, and when he fails to pay the electric bill, he heads out to get some money when his girlfriend just wants to talk, and that “we gotta talk” sort of talk ain’t gonna go to well for Harry.  He even confesses later in the episode that he thinks she’s cheating on him.

Anyway, Harry decides to rob a bank, always a brilliant move, and when he locks eyes with the teller…they body swap.  Cops show up to arrest Harry, but Harry’s mind ain’t in there right now.  But he doesn’t stay in the teller’s body wrong as he swaps to a cop, and then a couple other people, even asking for help from a psychic (Porter) who won’t help him rob banks.  Fortunately, Detective Reece figures things out pretty quick.  Especially since every time Harry takes a new body, the displaced mind gets its regular body back.

Harry just wants to get this bag of stolen money back to his apartment and…I don’t think he’s thought that far ahead.  Anyway, when he tries to take over the body a single mother, it looks like he can’t because she’s wearing glasses, so he swaps with her kid instead.  That leads to Reece, leading Harry’s body with the kid’s mind inside, into a confrontation with Harry, and Harry decides to give the kid his body back by taking over Reece’s.  Things go bad when more cops, who don’t know jack about no body-swappin’, show up and guns go off.

The Twist:  Harry, now permanently in Reece’s body from the looks of things, learns his girlfriend was cheating on him with Reece, and the body swapping made him a better actor, so he’s getting parts again.

Did he just get everything he wanted out of life?

What about Jordan?  Looks like he has a desk job at that bank.
