Curb Your Enthusiasm “The Car Pool Lane”

Season Four, Episode Six

This episode has one great claim to fame going for it:  scenes filmed at a baseball game later exonerated a man in court because he was at the game and now had an alibi.

It’s also rather funny.

See, Larry does a number of shifty things in this episode, and he does them for very Larry-ish reasons.  His father’s eyesight is bothering him, so he buys some marijuana as treatment.  He also buys it from Hurley from Lost, so this is automatically Ryan’s most hated episode of the entire series.

Larry wants to use the carpool lane to go to the baseball game, so he hires a prostitute to just ride in his car.  He later takes her to the ballgame, and she gives him some really good weed.

And he lies about being a racist to get out of jury duty.

Now, this sort of thing just causes more trouble.  Larry asks Marty Funkhouser to hold onto Larry’s Seinfeld jacket while he uses the airport’s restroom, but that’s where he put the weed he bought from Hurley, and Marty gets arrested.  That could be payback for Marty’s refusal to give his dead dad’s seat up at the baseball game, but who knows?

And yeah, the weed does wonders for Larry’s dad, but he has a bad trip that involves arguing with himself in the mirror.

Oh, and the judge Larry faked a bit of racism with is the same judge that Larry has to testify for to get Marty out of trouble.  Good thing that prostitute was there and she was black!

Then again, it probably didn’t help that Larry had to ask Cheryl to pay the sex worker.

See, if Larry was less shifty, he might not have had a lot of those problems.
