Oh hey, Richard Kind as Larry’s cousin? I could see that. And Larry got cast in a Martin Scorsese movie with the director playing himself? Nah, I can’t really see that.
The Larry’s getting cast part, not the Martin Scorsese is in the episode part.
Actually, the title here refers to a case where Larry is upset that his recently deceased mother can’t be buried in consecrated soil because she had a tattoo on her butt, and the Jewish cemetery won’t let her be buried there, leading to Larry, his father, his cousin, and Jeff’s all going to the cemetery at night and moving the body after bribing a groundskeeper.
But here’s the thing: Larry’s mother died while he was in New York filming his scenes for the movie. On a whim, he decides to stop by and see his dad, and it is only then that he learns his mother died, and Larry missed the funeral because, apparently, Larry’s mother told Larry’s father not to bother Larry if things went bad while he was in New York.
That is…such a Larry sort of thing. I am not the slightest bit surprised a member of the David family would do such a thing out of excessive politeness. Of course no one would tell Larry about his mother’s funeral because his mother told his father not to bother him. Of course Larry would get upset and he and his dad (and his cousin) would get into an argument over all that stuff. And of course Larry’s father would honor such a ridiculous request.
But this is the world of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry will learn that telling/reminding people that his mother died will get him out of all kinds of things.
He doesn’t want to go to some bar mitzvah? His mother just died, and he’s collecting his thoughts.
Dinner with another couple? His mother just died.
Richard Lewis won’t “return” Larry’s meditation mantra? Dead mother.
Cheryl won’t give him sex? Oh yeah, his mom died.
Cops show up to arrest Larry for passing around fake movie money to the groundskeeper? OK, it doesn’t work in that case. But Larry does get the most of out that excuse for as long as he can.
