This season had a lot of guest stars, but most of them managed to pop up in this final episode, plus Tea Leoni.
Does anyone care much about Tea Leoni? She came outta nowhere.
By this point, everyone knows who the killer is: Marshall the screenwriter, and he did it because Sazz on her first attempt wrote a better script than he had with his every attempt, and after stealing her script, she was going to tell Charles and…
…wait, that means that Marshall didn’t have anything to do with the season one plotholes after all. Was he the one texting threats to Charles, Oliver, and Mabel? Looks like the actors weren’t all that helpful after all.
Anyway, that was the reason, and Marshall might have been one of the more dangerous killers on the show, so it only helps that he was in turn killed by the first dangerous killer on the show, Jan with a sniper rifle.
But for all that the murderer was found, the episode likewise takes time to handle Oliver and Loretta’s wedding, one that might preclude Oliver’s moving to New Zealand for her career. Sure, that could just be a good excuse to keep Meryl Streep off the show when it comes back next season, a move predicated before the podcasters find Lester the doorman dead in the courtyard fountain, the very place he married his own wife, when Charles points out that they always find someone else they know dead about the same time they wrap up an old case. I don’t think that’s quite true–Paul Rudd’s big time actor benefited from a time jump–but by now, it means Oliver is nervous Loretta will be killed before the two can tie the knot. That doesn’t happen, but this is a quirky show, and I wouldn’t have put it past the producers.
Actually, that would have led to a more vengeful Oliver, and that probably wouldn’t work. This show is often very silly, and doing that to Oliver would have been a bridge too far in my humble opinion.
But as always, I really love spending time with these people, even if they always have to solve a murder. Charles’s final conversation with Sazz, one where Charles outright says he knows he’s just talking to himself, is punctuated nicely by Mabel and Oliver’s observation from a few feet away that Charles is talking to himself, but they figure they should leave him alone. And yes, Tea Leoni pops up to try and hire the podcasters to find her missing husband, but they solve murders in their building.
And cue the dead doorman…
I can’t wait for more of this. OK, I have to, but I can pretend.
In the meantime, hey, Squid Game came back.

Whether it should have come back or not, well, that’s a different story.
