I spent a lot of the season two episode write-ups discussing who is and isn’t at fault for Larry’s problems.
Well, this one is pretty much Larry’s fault.
See, Larry is being particularly obtuse, throwing an apple core into a neighbor’s can, making the neighbor upset. Joining an investment group with Jeff, Ted Danson, and Michael York (that’s a random guest star!), and then making a lot of suggestions that sure sound to me like a bad idea. Blowing off a dinner with his dentist before needing to get his teeth fixed after a terrible pinata accident. Spelling “asshole” in front of Ted Danson’s young daughter only to learn she can spell “asshole.”
Ted didn’t seem too upset about that last one, actually.
So, what will make things worse for Larry? Well, while visiting a friend’s house, Larry gets really obsessed with a shirt worn by the woman’s recently deceased husband to the point where he goes off to buy one for himself. The store only has two more, and since Ted liked the shirt, Larry buys him one then gets the last one for himself because he always ruins his shirts and he likes to wear them. But Ted’s shirt has a hole in it, leading to an argument about who should take the shirt to be fixed.
All of which is to say that, when all is said and done, nobody will be getting a shirt. The pinata accident, combined with the dentist’s hurt feelings when he realizes Larry lied to him about where he and Cheryl were that weekend, leaves one bloody. Wearing one at home when Ted and the widow come over while The Wizard of Oz is playing leads to the widow crying all over the second shirt and ruining it with running make-up. And finally, Larry and Ted fight for the last shirt and rip it in two pieces.
Ted throws his half in the same neighbor’s trash can. That guy said he was going to beat up the next person to do that. Hopefully, Ted can run fast.
That really is a lot of small things that are Larry’s fault. I’ll just have to wait and see how fast his ideas sink that restaurant.
