Curb Your Enthusiasm “The Thong”

Season Two, Episode Five

I think it’s safe to say Larry isn’t winning anything in this one either.

So, apparently, Larry sees a therapist.  Sure, he describes the guy as someone he can go to talk about whatever when he can’t bother a friend about it, but he does share the therapist with two people of note.  One is Larry’s friend Richard Lewis, who initially recommended the guy.  The other is Rob Reiner, playing himself, who meets Larry in the waiting room and asks if Larry will be agree to raise money for the fictional Groat’s Syndrome by being a prize in a celebrity auction.  Larry would just need to go to lunch with the winner.

He doesn’t know if he has to be funny or not when the time comes.  He does not.  He tries anyway.  Turns out Mr. John Tyler, whose niece suffers from Groat’s Syndrome, is not interested in the fact that he shares a name with a dead American president.  Also, Larry is at his least funny when he’s trying to be funny.

On the other hand, Larry takes the therapist’s advice to do something with Cheryl, and he opts to take her to the beach.  She likes the beach.  Larry has somehow never been to the beach.  He doesn’t know what to do there.  Also, Cheryl doesn’t help him carry stuff.  Or they never stop to think he can take everything in two trips.  Larry has problems.

He also sees his therapist in a thong, and despite hiding by lying face-down from the man who is maybe ten feet away, his efforts to end things with the therapist fail miserably because most things Larry does fails miserably.  Also, the therapist seems to suspect Larry wants out because of the thong.  So does Richard Lewis, but Richard Lewis has his own problems.

Don’t we all?

As it is, to save the donation Larry almost lost to the Groat’s Syndrome charity, he agrees to host a talent show for people with Groat’s.  But when John Tyler’s niece won’t leave the stage when she’s supposed to during a piano recital, Larry has to try and go out and get her.

Wait, Groat’s Syndrome isn’t real.  What does it do?  It makes people overly energic about doing things, making it hard for them to stop doing such things.

Oh, an adolescent girl is beating Larry up now?  Sounds about right.  Larry is not good at these sorts of things.
