Huh. The “previously on” segment suggests that Sazz was warning Charles about attempts on his life for a long time. That could be useful to know for later.
In the meantime, the trio learn they forgot something. Or they didn’t know it. It doesn’t matter. Their actor counterparts are there to trail them for the day and learn more about them. Charles and Mabel aren’t really interested as the moment, but Oliver is. That fits because Zach Galifianakis isn’t interested in spending time with Oliver. As for the others, Eugene Levy thinks Charles is deeper than he appears to be while Eva Longororia wants to play a version of Mabel that doesn’t exist. Since there’s still a murder to investigate, one where Detective Williams wants them to look into things for a change after the feds took over the case, that means when Charles and Mabel go over to the West Side Tower to look for more dirt on Vince Fish and the Christmas guy, Zach and Oliver get to spend time together.
Funny moment: Howard shows up at Oliver’s assumes Galifianakis is there to play him, but even after Zach and Oliver have a good day, Zach still thinks Oliver is an idiot narcissist, so having Howard point out Oliver is a guy who never let a life full of endless failures stop him from getting up in the morning is a good thing.
Levy meanwhile learns Charles isn’t deep at all as both men (eventually) learn Fish really does have pinkeye and not just a bruise from a rifle recoil. It turns out Vince isn’t unfriendly or hates Charles. It just turns out both Vince and Charles are awkward men who misunderstood the other’s similar reactions.
And Mabel sees a more decisive version of herself gets results as Longoria has a dinner date with high-flying famous people, so she wants to wrap things up faster as Kamail Nanjiani’s Rudy Thurber seems to be a nice enough man, but when Longoria finally loses it to prompt a faster confession, the women get one alright: Rudy hates Christmas, but he’s been typecast for his bodybuilding videos. Also, he says he didn’t kill anyone.
That just leaves the mystery neighbor. Since he’s out, Mabel decides to move into his place for squatter’s rights and force his return. Besides, Howard has that man’s pig, and his ham radio says that looking into this murder will get the investigators killed. Or not. This is still a comedy show. But at least we know who didn’t kill Sazz. Maybe. Possibly.
It wasn’t Jimmy, was it?
