At some point between episodes, Jason Alexander dropped out of Larry’s TV idea about an actor that got typecast, but here, Jeff suggests doing the same basic concept with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Larry says she has the same problem, and uh…you know, between Seinfeld, Veep, and a whole host of other things, I figure Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the least typecast of the main cast of Seinfeld.
But whatever. She isn’t even in this episode.
This episode might just be about all the ways things can go wrong for Larry thanks to random encounters. While at dinner with married couple friends, the wheelchair-bound husband mentions his grandfather invented the Cobb Salad, mostly because he didn’t like watching Larry remake the thing into something else. Larry also, in an effort to see if the man and Cheryl were paying any attention, suggests he and the man’s wife have a little fun without pants. Then he meets a guy he’d rather not go golfing with and says he doesn’t play despite loving the game, and he angers another man by whistling Wagner for Cheryl outside a movie theater. See, Wagner was antisemitic, so Jewish people like Larry shouldn’t go enjoying his music.
So, to keep a tally: Larry joked about sleeping with another man’s wife when said woman is making a bracelet for Cheryl’s birthday, he angered another Jewish man for whistling Wagner, and he lied to yet another man about playing golf.
And that’s before he refused to give two uncostumed teenage girls candy for Halloween. They just TP and otherwise vandalize Larry’s house in ways he maybe should be familiar with by now because he’s Larry.
Naturally, when the woman Larry accidentally propositioned tries to take him up on the offer and Larry decides because he just likes the outfit to wear golfing attire while running errands, he gets into all kinds of trouble, but he does find a way to make things up to Cheryl: he hires a small orchestra to play Wagner on her birthday in his foyer.
And since the Jewish Guy Who Hates Wagner is the father of one of the teenage vandals, Larry later takes the orchestra to play outside that guy’s house.
I think Larry won this one. Besides, Cheryl’s desires for bracelets just gets Larry in trouble. He’s better off never getting her another one.
