There’s a moment in this episode where Larry says he has made a career out of being unprofessional.
He’s not wrong.
Actually, for all this show is usually about how much Larry screws up, and he often does, this time around, I think Cheryl might be partially to blame. She doesn’t leave the house with Larry and cause more trouble. It’s more like she seems to be encouraging him and even agreeing with whatever is going on, maybe planting an idea or two into Larry’s head that will only get him in trouble later. Meanwhile, Jeff really shouldn’t have let Larry drive Jeff’s new ’57 Chevy.
See, there’s a dinner party at Larry’s house, and that brings the usual assortment of problems. The caterer, recommended by Jeff, takes a lot of the leftover food home unasked despite Larry and Cheryl’s paying for it. Larry, who misunderstood an AAMCO radio commercial for a real horn honking flipped off the guy behind him while driving Jeff’s car, after which the guy rammed Jeff’s car and damaged something. But Larry meets an AMMCO manager at the party, and not only is the guy amused by Larry’s story, but he’ll also look at Jeff’s car. However, the guy calls the next day to say he needs to talk to Larry, but he doesn’t say why. Larry thinks it’s because the guy took Larry’s chair at dinner. Cheryl thinks he overheard Larry’s saying that he doesn’t want other people to stay at his vacation house after someone had offered them as much. I thought the guy might have been offended since he insisted on saying Christian Grace before dinner, and Larry didn’t bow his head because Larry is Jewish.
As it is, I was wrong. Larry was actually right. But Larry blurted out Cheryl’s assumption, the guy got offended, and Jeff’s car wasn’t fixed.
So, is that Larry’s fault or Cheryl’s? I mean, Cheryl was just as mad as Larry that the caterer took the leftovers without asking. Jeff wasn’t because the caterer is a neighbor who shares leftovers. And a homeless guy confirms the caterer is a liar when she claimed the leftovers go to homeless shelters. Larry did give the leftovers he got back to a homeless guy, so that much was true, but Larry maybe should have stuck to his instincts this time.
Unless I misheard things as they played out. I was mostly wondering why Cheryl had this guy over for a dinner party in the first place.
