I get the impression that other people like to make more of a big deal about Larry’s role in creating Seinfeld than he really wants to.
Is that a meta comment on how Larry David, the real Larry David, wanted this show to stand on its own and not just be a Seinfeld thing?
As it is, this episode really plays by the Seinfeld angle by bringing in Julia Louis-Dreyfus as herself. Also, her husband Brad Hall is there as himself. But that kid is probably not her kid. That’s someone else’s kid. Because these people are actors even if Larry may not be a very good one.
That said, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is, and like everyone else on this show, she gets very angry at Larry, only this time it may be for a very good reason as Larry keeps misunderstanding the cut-off time of when it is not OK to call someone as Larry calls first Jeff (and wakes Susie) and then later calls Julia at an earlier time but still too late to call.
Then again, Larry would only be calling her because Cheryl wants a phone line buried underground and needs the permission of all the neighbors, and the only folks left are a weird lawyer and his weird wife who just want to meet Julia. But then Jeff needs a lawyer and the guy isn’t there, and when he is there, Julia is mad because Larry came to her house late looking for a notepad that the lawyer guy had, and lawyer guy thinks Larry owes him a $500 reward for finding the pad.
Well, that’s a mess. No wonder Larry would rather not deal with the Seinfeld thing, but Julia herself has no problem calling Jerry Seinfeld late at night to complain about Larry because, even with the time difference, it’s not a cut-off time if you call New York.
Maybe no one knows about cut-off times. I make it a point to try not to call anyone after 9PM. It’s just common courtesy, and these people could use a bit more of that.
