The Clone Wars “Friends And Enemies”

Obi-Wan's undercover work runs afoul of both Cad Bane's mistrust and Anakin's temper.

Episodes of The Clone Wars usually open with what might be considered a bit of Jedi wisdom.  This one opens with “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

That doesn’t sound like a Jedi expression…

Obi-Wan is undercover, trying to learn what Moralo Eval is up to.  All he knows is it has something to do with Palpatine.  Oh, and Cad Bane is there, and that guy doesn’t trust Obi-Wan, what with his general distrust of everyone and hypercompetence and all.  Bane can and will ditch Obi-Wan on the Hutt homeworld because, well…why should Bane trust this new guy?

To be clear, if Bane thinks it’s Obi-Wan, he’s got a good way of hiding his suspicions.  I think it’s just Bane doesn’t trust anyone, especially some guy who managed to tag along for no discernable reason.  By episode’s end, it sure does look like Bane believes Obi-Wan’s alter ego really is that person.  That only comes after Obi-Wan has managed to doublecross Bane and Eval a couple times.  Well, at least he’s making some progress, even checking in with Yoda and Mace Windu when he can.

But then Palpatine gives Anakin Rako Hardeen’s location, and since Anakin believes Rako killed Obi-Wan when in fact Rako is Obi-Wan, that just means he and Ahsoka can maybe make things worse.

See, I knew they should have told Anakin.

Now, Cad Bane comes with certain advantages and disadvantages.  On the plus side, he’s easy to find since he wears a very distinctive hat and looks like he came out of a Spaghetti Western.  On the down side, he’s pretty damn hard to stop and can hold off a Jedi with enough effort.  Anakin does get knocked out, with Obi-Wan trying to tell him to back off, and all that does is tell Anakin that Obi-Wan is still alive, not that he’s Rako.

That may still be a problem.

Say, where’s the real Rako anyway?
