The Clone Wars “Deception”

Obi-Wan goes undercover as a bounty hunter to foil a terrorist plot.

Plot descriptions on Disney+ tell me exactly one thing:  this next storyline is going to be a loooooooooooong one.

See, there’s this guy, one Moralo Eval, that is plotting a terrorist attack, possibly on Naboo very shortly.  As such, the Jedi need more information, so that means slipping someone undercover into the prison where Eval is currently housed.  So far, so good.  Who’s the spy?

Wait, seriously?  He’s the reason the others got caught in the slavery storyarc.  He’s awfully smug all the time too.  He should be easy to spot if he’s undercover.  This seems like a bad idea.

OK, it ain’t all that bad:  Obi-Wan fakes his own death at the hands of a bounty hunter.  That the Jedi hired the bounty hunter is immaterial.  That just makes finding him easier when he goes to get paid.  There’s some apparently painful plastic surgery for Obi-Wan, a voice modulator to sound like the guy, and soon he’s off to prison to meet Eval.

That’s where the problems come in:  Eval’s cellmate and partner is Cad Bane.  Bane isn’t above testing Undercover Obi-Wan with some slander from Boba Fett.

Wait, Boba Fett is in prison?  The adult prison?  Ain’t he still a kid?

Boba feels dissed, and that sends his pal Bossk on a rampage because all kinds of bad guys are locked up here.  That allows Obi-Wan, Eval, and Bane to escape, though Bane is incredibly suspicious of the new guy.  This could go bad, but I don’t see how this could get any worse.

Oh wait, there is one more way:  only Yoda and Mace know Obi-Wan is this guy right now.  That means no one told Anakin.  Or Ahsoka, but mostly Anakin.  He…doesn’t take things like this too well, but I am sure they will go back to ignoring Anakin’s Dark Side tendencies very soon…assuming he doesn’t try to kill his former Master next time he sees him.

Cripes, tell Anakin next time!
