The Wheel Of Time “Daes Dae’mar”

Season Two, Episode Seven

And so, everyone goes to Falme.

So, to be clear, there are plenty of the protagonists in Falme to begin with, most notably Loial, Nynaeve. Egwene, and Elayne, and only half of them are prisoners of the Seanchan.  Perrin, with Hopper and Aviendha in tow, is on his way there to rescue the people he was with when the Seanchan attacked and took a whole lot of prisoners.  Even Mat ends up there despite the fact he is trying very hard not to be there.

I’m not sure how bad Lanfear is since she does what she does out of love, however spurned, but Ishamael is a real jerk even when he isn’t giving Mat some really bad tea.  Mat was honestly trying not to get involved, and I think there’s something to be said for a character that is trying to avoid danger and adventure, like really trying, and he ends up there anyway.

But then there’s Moiraine, Lan, and Rand, all of whom are actually being held up from going to Falme in a wide variety of ways.  Rand?  The Aes Sedai want to use him as a captive weapon.  Moiraine?  Her seemingly kind nephew is a Darkfriend, but fortunately, not a very competent one.  And Lan?  Well, he’s still on Moiraine’s bad side.  On the plus side, Moiraine wasn’t really stilled so much as a spell is just blocking her magic.

So, in the end, everyone finds a way to get to Falme even if that is largely due to Lanfear’s messing with everyone in Cairhien to get a handful of people there to do…something?

Like, what’s in Falme, besides the Seanchan, those awful people who deserve every bad thing that could happen to them?  Egwene’s controller Renna actually thought telling Egwene that the Seanchan want to defeat evil by uniting all of humanity was their plan would win Egwene over, seemingly oblivious to the fact that their idea on how to unite humanity is the real problem because, well…slavery is wrong.  At least Renna’s attempts to be kind work about as well as microwaving ice cream.

It was satisfying to see Nynaeve slap one of those collars onto a Seanchan to take her prisoner.

But no, everyone needs to go to Falme because that’s where the big things are happening.  Plus, the season finale is up next, and it might be nice to see all the main characters actually meet up together again before the season ends.
