Noteworthy Issues: Batman: Killing Time #2 (April, 2022)

Batman knows what was stolen from that Gotham bank, and the reader still doesn't.

You know, this mini-series seems to be the sort where there’s a lot of mystery, one where whatever is really going on might not be revealed until maybe the last issue or something.

I mean, there’s a lot I still don’t know.

Issue:  Batman: Killing Time #2, April 2022

Writer:  Tom King

Artist:  David Marquez

The Plot:  Batman investigates the robbery using his own methods while Catwoman starts to really doubt the Riddler as a partner.

Commentary:  What did Catwoman and the Riddler steal?  I don’t know.  Who are they selling it to?  I don’t know.  What does Batman know?  I don’t know.  Heck, the Joker shows up here to say he learned something from Batman, something he might have shared with Catwoman while the two were hanging out on a rooftop together.  What was the secret and did he tell Catwoman?  I really don’t know.

And somehow, I am finding this mini-series compelling.  The way the story is set up, bouncing around time and space, means it may work better in trade form.  This issue, for the most part, follows three different plot lines.  There’s Batman’s investigation, there’s the way Catwoman and Riddler first got together for this job and Catwoman’s growing wariness that the Riddler somehow screwed things up, and there’s something involving Killer Croc’s girlfriend using money she was given to go on a shopping spree after Croc went to Arkham.

Also, Batman does not like being called “Bat-man”.  It’s pronounced “Batman,” Jimmy.

The point is, something like this could easily annoy me, and it might still do so before I get to the end, but so far, so good.
