Noteworthy Issues: Peacemaker Tries Hard! #3 (July, 2023)

Peacemaker finally gets some respect.

Peacemaker Tries Hard! is a Black Label mini-series about how everyone seems to think Peacemaker is a worthless POS.

He’s starting to feel that way himself by this point.

Issue:  Peacemaker Tries Hard! #3, July 2023

Writer:  Kyle Starks

Artist:  Steve Pugh

The Plot:  Peacemaker hits his lowest point, so it’s only uphill from here.

Commentary:  Peacemaker here finally becomes self-aware.  The Suicide Squad doesn’t want to hang out at his place because even they think he’s kinda gross.  Everyone he invites over for a weekend party declines, and not always politely.  He finally found a dog that loved him, a French bulldog with spot that looked like a bowtie, and after naming the dog “Bruce Wayne,” the dog was kidnapped by the Brotherhood of Evil.  Peacemaker is blackmailed to do a job for them, and he thinks Monsieur Mallah was becoming his friend, but it was all a lie.  And then the Brain decided to keep the dog.

Yes, this is his lowest point, and as this third issue starts, he’s going to drown his sorrows in a bar when the Demolition Team comes by looking for revenge.

This is really the point where Peacemaker starts to turn his life around without really doing anything.  After a good cry, he manages to impress a few people, gets sympathy over the kidnapped dog, and even gets the most unlikely ally possible.  Will this make Peacemaker a better person?  Eh, probably not.  Does this make for a better issue of a mini-series I have only found so-so so far?  A little, sure.  I don’t know if I would recommend this story to others necessarily, but it wasn’t all that bad in the grand scheme of things.  It’s also not that great, but I did somewhat enjoy this issue more than the previous two.

I suspect I will not be enjoying the final issue as much, truth be told.  But hey, I’ve been wrong before.
