Noteworthy Issues: Danger Street #3 (February, 2023)

Starman knows what he needs to do, but other folks' plans might make that more difficult.

Three issues in, and I have a slight idea where all this is headed…or not.  There are so many seemingly disparate plotlines floating around here as it is.

Issue:  Danger Street #3, February 2023

Writer:  Tom King

Artist:  Jorge Fornes

The Plot:  Lots of folks are closing in on Starman and Warlord, but they’re not paying much attention to that.

Commentary:  I’m not 100% sure what to make of this series.  To be clear, I generally like what I read, but I don’t know what to make of it.  Simple reason for that:  there are a number of different plot lines being juggled around with different characters that don’t seem to relate to each other.  Almost.

OK, whatever the Creeper and Manhunter are up to is something of a mystery, and they aren’t dealing with each other.  Manhunter seems to be after the Green Team on behalf of parties unknown, and the Creeper (as Jack Ryder) works for them.

But it may be that everyone in the series (except for Manhunter) is somehow going to go after Starman and Warlord.  Starman is in a depressed funk after accidentally killing one of the Dingbats, and another one wants to find and kill his friend’s killer while “Lady Cop” is looking to just arrest the guy.  Darkseid and Highfather, working together, want the person or persons responsible for the death of Atlas.  That’s also Warlord and Starman.  And quite frankly, there’s a good deal of decent humor in the Darkseid/Highfather scenes, particularly as they debate which of their own agents will be sent out to find Atlas’s murderers.

Essentially, there’s a lot of characters who will be looking for Warlord and Starman, and Starman had a thought on how to bring the dead kid back to life.  He just needs to run a job for the Green Team…and my guess is, if he and Warlord screw that up, the Green Team will be after them too.

I’m liking this, but it wouldn’t be completely unsurprising to me if King somehow screws this up in the end.  There are a lot of balls in the air that he’s trying to juggle right now.
