Only Murders in the Building, despite a very clumsy title, is a show that actually does a great balance of urbane comedy and genuinely clever murder mysteries.
That…pretty much sums up the entire show.
Of course, that means that Cinda is not the killer. I never believed she was for a minute. No, her assistant Poppy, AKA Becky, AKA the victim from Canning’s first true crime podcast who had actually disappeared, faked her own death, and blamed the mayor of her small Oklahoma town for said crime because her life was miserable, was the actual killer with her boyfriend Detective Kreps. The motivation: they wanted to be famous true crime podcasters by framing other people after committing the perfect crime, and it all comes out in a Killer Reveal Party where both the killer is revealed and they have a killer party. With cake. Good cake. Eventually.
That scene, showing the different residents using their best acting to try to goad a confession out of Cinda (not really), complete with Charles’s getting stabbed by a fake knife when Mabel accuses Alice, and oh man, there were a lot of people in on that con. Cinda’s fears of slow motion and the insides of tomatoes, if real, was actually very amusing to me, and if anything, it shows that what Poppy/Becky and Kreps did that was dumber than most was to accuse people with show business experience. Charles is an actor, Oliver a director, and it turns out a lot of other people in the building had frustrated Broadway dreams.
The doorman has had a particularly tragic life.
But no, it was all a ruse because Poppy did it, everyone there (including Cinda) knew it the whole time, and the only thing Cinda was guilty of was being a terrible boss.
We’ve all had one of them.
From there, well, it looks like the series is settling into a good place for everyone. Mabel and Alice reconcile. Charles asks make-up lady Joy out and has his job on his new show improved since he showed what he could do during the livestream. Oliver and his son bond despite a lack of a biological connection. And heck, Oliver gets a new directing gig.
Too bad it looks like lead actor Paul Rudd dies literally on stage on opening night. He and Charles were arguing beforehand.
Cripes, who would wanna kill Paul Rudd?
Well, I’ll find out when season three eventually shows up. In the meantime, I do need something for Tuesdays. I have been curious about Amazon’s new Lord of the Rings.

Now, so long as I judge it on its own merits and not compare it to, say, anything by Peter Jackson, I’ll be OK.
