Only Murders In The Building “Persons Of Interest”

Season Two, Episode One.

Alright, another comedic murder mystery, where my individual posts probably don’t say much because I’m not all that sure how to do any sort of analysis of a comedy show without just repeating the best jokes.

Oh, like these posts aren’t just glorified plot summaries anyway…

Season one ended with the threesome of Charles, Oliver, and Mabel’s arrest for the murder of unpleasant building community president Bunny Folger.  Yes, the unpleasant woman is named “Bunny,” and the first season ended with Mabel, covered in blood, kneeling over Bunny’s corpse with one of Mabel’s knitting needles sticking out of the dead woman.  This episode opens up with all three under police interrogation, and Mabel is the top suspect for Detective Williams and her partner Michael Rappaport.  Sure, his character is named Detective Kreps, but he still is basically every Michael Rappaport character.

The interrogation scene basically is there to remind everyone who these people are.  Charles assumes he knows how this works because of his time on Brazzos, and he’s not completely wrong.  Oliver likes the attention (and later gets peeved when he realizes that he was cropped from the newspaper photos of the arrest).  Mabel gives Kreps the most deadpan look possible, a monument to stone-faced comedy, and manages to talk her way out of trouble when the cops let slip that the knitting needle was not actually the murder weapon.  Williams makes it clear that they should not investigate this case themselves, and that at first glance seems to suit all three fine.

Case in point:  the podcast got them all some more attention.

Mabel meets an art dealer, Alice, played by Cara Delevingne, and they seem to hit it off.

Charles is offered a chance at a Brazzos reboot, only he’d be playing the uncle to a new, female Brazzos.

And Amy Schumer meets Oliver in the elevator to see about remaking the podcast for television.

So, really, it’s in everyone’s best interests that they don’t do more even as their podcasting idol Cinda Canning is basically urging them to look deeper.  Besides, there’s no show if they don’t, and Bunny did make a cryptic comment to Mabel before she died.  And for all I know, Bunny’s hard-swearing parrot is a witness.  I wouldn’t put anything past this show.

That means breaking into Bunny’s apartment and looking around.  And that shows a piece of erotic artwork that’s actually worth some money is missing.  Oh, and then it turns up in Charles’s apartment.

And it’s of his father.

Man, this time, it’s personal.
