Well, gee, another recovered Second Doctor serial in animated form? Yes, I did get a couple more. I really like these things.
This time animated in black-and-white, the story opens with the TARDIS materializing over a bit of the ocean near a beach. Apparently, the TARDIS can float, and also the Doctor has an inflatable raft inside to row to shore with his two companions Jamie and Victoria. So far, so good. There’s a lot of weird foam on the beach the trio play with before they take note of a pipeline going into the ocean and up to a facility of some kind on the cliff above.
It’s, apparently, the White Cliffs of Dover, and even Jamie wants to know why whenever they go to Earth they always land in England. That…is a very good question.
Regardless, the Doctor hears something inside the pipe as do Jamie and Victoria. He opts to use the sonic screwdriver to take a look, and this was back when the tool was only used as a screwdriver and not the all-purpose multitool it is these days. There doesn’t seem to be anything odd in there, but there are security cameras all over, and the trio are shot with tranquilizer darts and taken inside. They wake up tied to some chairs, and that’s where the trouble begins.
See, the facility is collecting sea gas or something, and the man in charge is one Robson. Robson is a taskmaster of a man who prides himself on never shutting down the pipeline even for maintenance. But he did send a security team off to a distant part of the station, but they never really called back, and even then, he won’t shut down the pipes. But having three curious strangers in the hold, well, that could lead to something.
Now, this is the Doctor and two of his more capable companions. Heck, the Second Doctor has always had capable companions. Getting untied isn’t an issue, and Jamie figures he can use the sonic screwdriver and a boost to go through a vent above the door. Sure, Victoria offers a hairpin, but he’s already up there with the sonic screwdriver, and Jamie is too manly or something to use a hairpin.
Naturally, he gets through, falls hard to the floor…and finds the Doctor and Victoria also got through the door using Victoria’s hairpin.
Well, if Victoria is so darn smart, maybe she wouldn’t have wandered away on her own as the trio sneak around the facility. The men go one way, she goes somewhere else to some kind of store room, and…well, something in there scared the crap out of her as she started screaming to end Part One.
