You know you’re in a bad way when you wake up somewhere and not only do you not know where you are, neither do your past lives.
That’s so Aang.
Yeah, Aang is on a mysterious island with Momo. His bending works, so he’s not in the spirit world. He does find a hexagon through the trees, but it’s not made of earth so he can’t bend it. He’s confused, so maybe his past lives can help him since he really doesn’t want to kill the Fire Lord and maybe those guys know something.
And, um, they aren’t helpful. Roku says he should have killed the Fire Lord from his time when he had the chance and saved everyone a lot of misery. Kiyoshi didn’t kill Chin the Tyrant since he died due to his own stupidity, but she would have done so if she had to, so she isn’t helpful. A waterbender with a carefree attitude might be good for advice, but he lost the love of his life to the Stealer-of-Faces, so he wishes he’d acted sooner. Heck, Aang even calls up an Air Nomad, and even she is telling him to kill the Fire Lord.
How depressing.
Then Aang realizes the island is alive. It’s a giant animal, a Lion-Turtle, and that thing gives him some knowledge because, well, there is always another way.
But maybe his friends can find him. Zuko did find that great tracker.
And she can’t find Aang. He’s not dead, but it’s like he doesn’t exist.
That’s weird.
She can find someone else, the only other person who can defeat the Fire Lord:Â Iroh.
He’s at Ba Sing Se. He and the White Lotus gathered there to take back the city.
Yes, the White Lotus! King Bumi, who easily escaped from the Fire Nation and took his city back on the day of the eclipse! Jeong Jeong, Aang’s first firebending teacher! Master Paku, the waterbender now married to Katara and Sokka’s grandmother! And Master Piandao, Sokka’s sword instructor, showing you don’t need to bend to be a badass!
And Iroh, he ain’t even mad at Zuko. That was sweet.
He also won’t fight his brother because that will just look like standard Fire Nation infighting. No, the Avatar has to end the war. Iroh just needs to liberate Ba Sing Se first.
In the meantime, the kids can do some other things. Someone needs to take Azula out, and that will have to be Zuko, but he’ll need help so Katara is his back-up. As for Toph, Sokka, and Suki, their job is to take down the Fire Nation’s air force. All those things will help Aang end the war if everyone can do their jobs.
Aang, meanwhile, is in a spot where the Fire Lord will find him. He’s as ready as he’ll ever be. And he may or may not have to kill a man. I doubt it since he’s the hero and he has to show there is another way, but he might have to.
