Simpsons Did It!: “The Musk Who Fell To Earth”

In which Homer inspires ideas for Elon Musk.

So, uh, this is another episode that happened.

We’ve seen a couple times in the past that The Simpsons will craft a whole episode around a guest star.  We saw it with that awful guy from the Lethal Weapon movies and Lady Gaga.

But this time around, the episode is crafted around wealthy inventor Elon Musk.  He’s, you know, not an actor.  That first fellow had a screen persona he could play off, and Lady Gaga could get her weirdness put into animated form.  But Elon Musk?  The episode even makes light of how he doesn’t really show emotion.  Instead, after a briefer-than-usual unrelated opening bit involving the Simpsons capturing and then caring for a bald eagle, Elon Musk drops into their backyard in a spacecraft of some kind and eventually finds he can have an endless stream of new ideas if he just somehow works off whatever stupid things Homer says.

Lisa loves Elon Musk, Mr. Burns comes to hate him, and…well, that’s it really.  The episode felt a lot more formless than usual, and Elon Musk may be a brilliant and conscientious inventor and engineer, but he’s not an interesting person to build an episode of this show around.

Though Lisa did get a cool birdhouse out of it.
