Podcast Reaction: Geek Of The Year Edition

The Geeks play games and pick favorites. You know, the usual.

This week on the podcast, Jenny and the guys discussed their choices for Geek of the Year.

There was other stuff there involving Ryan’s audio, and a Watson game that proves he knows the sorts of things he says, but that’s for another day.

Watson’s ideal Geek of the Year.

So, there were a lot of good and interesting observations made for the Geek of the Year 2017.  I could make some general observations…

Ryan’s pick was DC Comics.  If he’d just said that Rebirth has been a lot of fun, I might have gone along with that.  He did not.  He chose the Watchmen stuff.  I haven’t read it yet, and I probably won’t any time soon (I wait for trades mostly these days), but the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth.

Watson went with Hugh Jackman for Logan.  Good choice.  We’ll see if the news of Marvel re-acquiring the movie rights for the X-Men means Jackman will come back to the role, but I could go either way.  I’m more curious what becomes of Quicksilver at this point.

But that was Watson’s second pick because he really agreed with Jenny on Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot.  You know what?  That’s another good pick, even if last I checked none of the Geeks say Gadot’s name correctly since she is an Israeli, not French, so the “t’ isn’t silent.

But I have another choice.  A better choice.

JIMMY IMPOSSIBLE

Why Jimmy?  Why not Jimmy, heathen?

Jimmy is my friend, partner, confidant, and frequent collaborator.  He helped guide me through The Fast and the Furious.  I’m helping to guide him through Game of Thrones.

Jimmy is the man.

Jimmy may or may not look like Hugh Jackman.

Jimmy-man, Jimmy-man,
He’s the ultimate Spider-fan
Can he sing this theme song?
Sure he can, it’s not long.
Look out
Here comes the Jimmy-man

So, really, as you can see, Jimmy is the obvious choice for Geek of the Year.  Oh sure, the other choices are good (except maybe DC/Watchmen crossovers), but Jimmy far surpasses all of them.

All praise Jimmy!
