Simpsons Did It!: “Angry Dad: The Movie”

In which Homer steals all the glory from Bart's animated film.

Wow.  Season twenty-two is, like, doing call backs to all kinds of episodes.  Here we are looking back at Bart’s Angry Dad cartoons.

It’s almost like after over two decades, they’re running out of ideas.

There are a ton of guest stars in this one too.  Ricky Gervais is back as himself.  He’s obnoxious.  Russell Brand is presenting at one awards show and Halle Berry at another.  British animator Nick Park tells us he’s more clay than man.  Makes sense.  And J.B. Smooth is there as a very knowledgable and friendly-to-tourists guy who seems to be in a gang.  I don’t like to assume.

But the whole thing seems like the sort of stuff that’s hard to write about.  There are a bunch of parodies of different animated styles, with a CGI mock-Pixar and a claymation mock-Aardman thing, plus Gervais doing what is for all I know a couple extended ad libbed riffs.  As such, well, I’m not sure what if anything I have to say.

The long and the short of it is after the Internet company that made the Angry Dad cartoons went under, the cartoons became the property of a chair manufacturer, and they want to  make Angry Dad into a movie.  For some reason, that means getting Bart to apparently write and direct it while Homer voices the character after the original voice actor ruined his voice shouting over not getting paid.

Say, that character was made to look like Dan Castellaneta…

Well, the four hour feature length film sucked, but Lisa suggested cutting it to a short film, and that’s good enough to start winning awards.  But whenever Bart takes the stage, Homer runs in an upstages him until Bart wins an Oscar for the film.  Then the two Simpsons reconcile and slice the Oscar into thin slices so everyone who worked on the movie could have one.  Apparently, you can get a used one off Ebay for five bucks…

Yeah, that’s all I am going to say about that.
