The Wire “Storm Warnings”

Season Two, Episode Ten.

Major Valchek is an unbelievably petty jerk.  He got something coming to him that, though it’ll be bad for the person who did it, was sure satisfying to just about everyone else involved.

So, Valchek was unhappy about the Detail expanding the investigation beyond Frank Sobotka.  So, he went to the FBI because the FBI can handle dirty unions.  And the FBI showed up at the Detail’s HQ and…preceded to help out with the investigation the Detail was working on.  Then when Valchek came back…he was still outraged that no one was making Frank Sobotka priority one.  He calls Prez home.  Prez says no.  Valchek insults Prez.  Prez pops Valchek, then hands his gun off to Daniels as Valchek leaves in disgust.

Yeah, everyone was happy.  Well, Prez needs to go home to his wife.  You know, Valchek’s daughter.

Meanwhile, Omar resurfaces.  What to make of that?  Well, Brother Mouzone has moved into the high rises, much to the pleasure of Bodie but the displeasure of Stringer, since Avon doesn’t know Stringer gave up territory he couldn’t defend anymore to Proposition Joe.  And Mouzone manages to reclaim the territory rather easily, and he’s scary.  But Joe’s smart.  Maybe, just maybe, he can arrange for the one man he knows of whom can maybe take Mouzone out to do it…you know, Omar.

But the big thing this episode…Ziggy kills a guy.  Maybe two.  He swipes the two Mercedes as planned, but then gets stiffed for his take.  Then insulting the man gets him a beating.  So, he grabs a gun and goes in shooting.  He doesn’t even try to run.  He signs the confession and everything.  Where were Nick and Frank?  Neither of them knew it was happening.

And bringing the FBI in, well, that just tells the Greek’s inside man that the FBI is looking at the Greek’s associates.  And that means that the Greek’s people are told to dump the evidence, literally washing it down a drain as the Detail is typing up the arrest warrants for a raid.  I somehow doubt the cops will get there in time.

And remember, this all started over a church window.
