I don’t read a lot. Scratch that. I don’t read a lot of novels. I surely read way too many comic books and internet posts. But to sit down with a book…well, that rarely happens.
But Ryan sang the praises of and convinced me to give The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey a shot. And I’m so glad he did. Definitely one of the best books I have read. The tale of Melanie, a child immune to some of the more devastating aspects of a disease that has turned much of the population into flesh eating “hungries”. She may be the last hope for finding a cure.
I highly recommend the book, and now we have a trailer for the inevitable movie adaptation:
I’m curious how interesting this plays to people unfamiliar with the story? I know the book is critically acclaimed but will the movie be able to take it to the next level of exposure? Sure, Glenn Close is a big name, but not exactly a huge box office draw. I’m a little worried about it’s box office potential.
That said, the script is being adapted by author M.R. Carey, so you would hope it stays true to the source material.
And how much did Ryan like the book? Well, only enough to interview Mr. Carey himself for right here at Gabbing Geek.
So go on and spend that Amazon bonus money everyone is waving around today on The Girl With All The Gifts. You’ve got about 3 months to finish before the film arrives on September 23rd. That’s even enough time for Watson to finish something. Wherever he is…
