I really love the Walking Dead games by Telltale Games. (Not that dreadful Survival Instinct by Terminal Reality/Activision starring Darryl and Merle Dixon. Dear God, what a half-assed money grab that was.) They look great and the story is compelling. The gameplay is fairly simple in general and I can see them boring some as they do involve a lot of conversations, but they also involve a lot of puzzles and decision making. Coolest of all, those conversations and decisions impact the story going forward. Pissed someone off in a conversation earlier…they might not try to help you when the walkers come. Decide to let someone perish…guess what, you can’t open that gate now without their help.
This aspect of the game-play really drew me in and I was happy to see that those decisions didn’t just “live” in the current game, but would also be remembered in subsequent games. (Assuming you kept those saved games around.)
After the cut, read more on a Telltale’s new Batman game and a Walking Dead game starring Michonne that spins off from the comic and not the previous games.
First, The Batman. The game will be episodic in nature, similar to the Walking Dead games and look for it on your gaming console of choice, mobile device and computer in 2016. We don’t know much else right now outside of this statement from Telltale:
“At Telltale, we’ve been honored to bring our unique approach to interactive storytelling to some of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be exploring what it means to be Batman in an all-new series starting next year…This iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.”

Next, The Walking Dead Michonne game. Ok, I cheated a bit here. This game was announced in June, but we get an update now to expect it in February of 2016. It has an interesting premise in that it follows the time in the comic book between issues #126 and #139 where Michonne had disappeared.
It is a three part series, and earlier reports are that you will need at least one of the first two seasons of The Walking Dead game to play. A knowledge of the comic books around that time period may be helpful, but I doubt it is required. (Though I’m just speculating.)
