Spiders, Spiders Everywhere Part 6

I’m not sure what Mr. Marvel has to do with Spider-Man, but they are sure milking it with this cover. The ad copy, her fighting Spidey foe The Scorpion and the disembodied heads of MJ, JJJ and Peter himself.

Continuing my Friday afternoon filler with cameos that don’t quite make the cut to be included in the  Spider-Man Complete Chronology.

After the break see such groundbreaking panels as:

  • Peter saying hello!
  • Peter saying nothing!
  • Peter saying nothing, but thinking something!
  • Peter in someone else’s book for no reason other than his Spider-Sense to go off!

Ms. Marvel 1 (January 1977) – True to their word on the cover, Carol Danvers world ties in pretty tightly with Spidey’s off the hop in her first issue.  She fights the Scorpion, a long time Spider-Man villain.   She works at the Daily Bugle.   She has numerous run-ins with J. Jonah Jameson.  She even has a coffee date with Mary Jane Watson.  Peter’s appearance however is mostly a sidenote:

Daredevil 54 (July 1969) – I don’t get superheroes sometimes.  For as often as they team up and create super teams, they sure don’t take kindly to another hero trying to lend a helping hand when they think they have it covered.

Daredevil 054

Incredible Hulk 152 (June 1972) –  The Hulk has been captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. and is being brought in to stand trail or something.  Peter is on hand to take pictures while JJJ is there to be a jerk.

Incredible Hulk 153 (June 1972) – Continuing from last issue, not surprisingly at some point Hulk wants to smash puny lawyers!!!  (Ok, puny reporters and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, but everyone enjoys a good smash lawyers joke.)  This looks like a job for Spider-Man, so Peter has to make up some excuse to run off and change…

But it looks like Peter should have just stayed behind the camera.  Remember I mentioned above about heroes not wanting help…I mean, it’s only the Hulk…

Sub-Mariner 68 (Jan 1974) – The following issue, number 69, is actually on my chronology, but is one of the weaker appearances and is mostly a glorified cameo.  This issue leads into that and has the Sub-Mariner showing up at the Empire Statue University campus and guess who is a face in the crowd?

Journey into Mystery 513 (October 1997) – And finally, a more recent cameo with the common Peter/Spider-Man making a one to two panel appearance for no other reason than to have his Spider-Sense go off to show the reader “whatever is going on, this is a serious threat!”
