Josh Trank has had a lot of bad press lately. A rumor was going around this weekend that made his career seem over. He responded to set the record straight, but what is the impact that these rumors were even floating around? We look into it after the jump.
On Friday a story from SuperheroNews suggested that after being fired from the Boba Fett movie in the Star Wars Anthology universe, Trank wasn’t even going to be allowed to finish the Fantastic Four film set for an AUGUST release. According to the sources of SHN, a director who is no stranger to comic book movies, Matthew Vaughn, was leaving his producer post and directing the reshoots needed to improve the film.
Superhero News has been informed by a source close to the film’s production that Fantastic Four producer and Kingsman: The Secret Service director Matthew Vaughn had assumed the role of director for the new April reshoots that took place. This begs the question of what Trank’s involvement in the entire production is at this point. Most recently, the young director was removed from the second Star Wars Anthology film following rumblings of production issues, indecisiveness and other factors. Having a director of Vaughn’s caliber should restore some faith in the project and keep anticipation high for its August debut.
Rumors can come from anywhere, so we at Gabbing Geek take these things with a grain of salt. But this one got such traction that Trank responded to the noise on Twitter.

If we take Trank at his word (and being a dumbass in Austin, Tx I have no reason to say otherwise), what the heck is this all about? It might be wholesale BS by a studio marketing department to save the movie’s image. It may be a disgruntled employee making stuff up. It may just be a bogus story altogether. But the fact that this kind of buzz is floating about is really damaging to the FF movie and to Trank’s career (he’s done with big budget for a while…)
What I find interesting is that he says he’s never even met Vaughn in person. Vaughn is a producer on the movie and was never on set? That seems weird to me. Can’t wait to see what the RT score is on this turd!
Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B Jordan, and Jamie Bell.
Question for ya: despite the odds, Fantastic Four turns into a huge hit for Fox. Does Age of Ultron or Fast Furious 7 numbers somehow. Does Trank do the sequel then?
No. There are personality conflicts that would lead them to getting someone else.
