Ever wondered what a Tim Burton Superman movie starring Nic Cage would look like? It almost happened… and now we’ll know why it didn’t!
Shout out to fellow geek Jon Schnepp for getting his passion project, the documentary “The Death of ‘Superman Lives’; What Happened?” to the finish line. It has been a a tough road for Schnepp, but amazingly her took his dream, paired with Kickstarter, to tell his story.
This doc, which includes interviews with Tim Burton and Kevin Smith, examines how creativity, the movie business, and fandom collide in a geektastic ballet. If Burton had made the movie it would have either been considered utter genius or the second coming of Bat Nipples!
The trailer Schnepp just released indicates a documentary reminiscent of last year’s “Jodorowsky’s Dune” (which was about another visionary filmmaker who shot for the stars and failed to produce an adaptation of another major geek property)!
The film sneak previews at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz on May 5th. Playing at the Ritz on Austin’s 6th Street is akin to a musical act playing Carnegie Hall in New York….or a musical act playing at the ACL Live Theater in Austin. The Gabbing Geek team scored their tickets in time, and we will be there to see it!
