Being all cool and trendy (and to infuriate Ryan), this will be the “zero issue” of the chronology updates as technically it isn’t an update, but the notes for the initial list as we roll this out. After the break, read my thoughts about the placement of issues in the chronology between Amazing Fantasy #15 and Amazing Spider-Man #50. The notes are a little on the light side this go round as most of this chunk are the early issues of Amazing interspersed with Untold Tales of Spider-Man, which Marvel has been pretty clear about where they fit chronologically. There are some spoilers if you’ve missed out on the last 50 years of Spider-Man and are just getting started.

- Amazing Fantasy 15 [Spider-Man story only]
- Spider-Man – Mythos 01 – Essentially an updated version of Amazing Fantasy 15.
- Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine 01 [Story 2] – Story 2 takes place at Ben’s funeral shortly after Amazing Fantasy 15, but is essentially just a retelling of Spider-Man’s origin.
- Amazing Spider-Man Family 01 [Story 1]
- Amazing Spider-Man Family 03 [Story 1]
- Amazing Fantasy 16 – Unfortunately, Learning To Crawl retcons the entire arc (issues 16-18) out of continuity. I guess the question is “does it matter?” since Brand New Day will retcon most everything and I won’t be removing post wedding issues from the chronology…
- Amazing Fantasy 17
- Amazing Fantasy 18
- Amazing Spider-Man 001
- Fantastic Four Annual 01 [Spider-Man story only]
- What If? – V1 – 007 – Someone Else Had Been Bitten By The Radioactive Spider – Has to take place after Amazing Spider-Man #1.
- Amazing Spider-Man 002
- Peter Parker Spider-Man Annual 2001 – Placement after Amazing Spider-Man 2 seems a little early. Pete is still in high school but he is super confident and “experienced” as Spider-Man. (Though he is pretty cocky in Amazing Spider-Man 3.)
- Amazing Spider-Man 003
- Amazing Spider-Man 004
- Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Annual [Story 1]
- Amazing Spider-Man 005
- Strange Tales Annual 02 [Spider-Man story only]
- Amazing Spider-Man 006
- What If? – V2 – 072 – Spider-Man Became A Murderer – Has to take place after first Sandman (Amazing Spider-Man 4) and Lizard (Amazing Spider-Man 6).
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 01
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 02
- Amazing Spider-Man 007
- Strange Tales 115 [Spider-Man story only] – Outside of a flashback of the events in Amazing Spider-Man 4, really only 2 panel cameo for Spidey. But leads directly into Untold Tales of Spider-Man 3.
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 03
- Amazing Spider-Man 008 [Story 1]
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 04
- Amazing Spider-Man 009
- What If? – V2 – 076 – Peter Parker Had To Destroy Spider-Man – Has to take place after Amazing Spider-Man 1, first Vulture (Amazing Spider-Man 2), Sandman (Amazing Spider-Man 4) and Electro (Amazing Spider-Man 9).
- Amazing Spider-Man 010 [Pages 1 – 5]
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 05
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 06
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 07
- Amazing Spider-Man 010 [Pages 6 – 22]
- What If? – V1 – 001 – Spider-Man Joined the Fantastic Four – Has to take place after Amazing Spider-Man 02 and after Foswell revealed as Big Man (Amazing Spider-Man 10).
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 08
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 09
- Amazing Spider-Man 011
- Amazing Spider-Man 012 [Pages 1 – 3]
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 10
- Amazing Spider-Man 012 [Pages 4 – 22]
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 11
That’s right kids, comics used to cost pennies. [Editor’s note: Jimmy, you used that joke before.] Dang. - Untold Tales of Spider-Man 12
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 13
- Amazing Spider-Man 013
- Spider-Man – Human Torch 01 – Chronologically immediately after Amazing Spider-Man 13 I think. But could argue to move it later as it is technically a flashback that starts with “Ten years ago…”
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 14
- Amazing Spider-Man 014
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 15
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 16 – This issue really plays havoc with a continuity read. Though it may be placed before Amazing Spider-Man 15, it totally ruins the MJ reveal YEARS later in Amazing Spider-Man 42. It also shows when MJ discovers that Peter is Spider-Man, which wasn’t retconned in until much, much later. This stuff happens a lot with Untold, but this is a major one along with issue 25.
- Tales to Astonish 057 [Spider-Man story only]
- Amazing Spider-Man 015
- Sensational Spider-Man Annual 1996
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 17
- Amazing Spider-Man 016
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 18
- Amazing Spider-Man Annual 001
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man – Strange Encounter – After Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1? Flash, etc don’t know Dr. Strange in the Annual
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 19
- Amazing Spider-Man 017
- Amazing Spider-Man 018 [Pages 1 – 2] – Amazing Spider-Man 18 and Untold Tales of Spider-Man 22 overlap. (Made even more confusing by the fact that Untold Tales of Spider-Man 20-21 occur between pages 2 and 3 of Amazing Spider-Man 18.)
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 20
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 21
- Amazing Spider-Man 018 [Pages 3 – 22]
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 22
- Amazing Spider-Man 019

- Untold Tales of Spider-Man Annual 1996
- Amazing Spider-Man 022
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 24
- Amazing Spider-Man 023
- Untold Tales of Spider-Man 25 – Much like other aspects of Untold, this issue ruins the Norman Osborn reveal of Amazing Spider-Man 39 if reading truly chronologically.
- What If? – V1 – 019 – Spider-Man Had Never Become A Crimefighter – Has to take place after Untold Tales of Spider-Man 25; Daredevil changes to his red suit; Foswell arrested (Amazing Spider-Man 10) and the Sinister Six have formed.
- Amazing Spider-Man 024
- Amazing Spider-Man 025
- What If? – V2 – 082 – J. Jonah Jameson Adopted Spider-Man – Has to be after Amazing Spider-Man 02, first Spider Slayer (Amazing Spider-Man 25), Scorpion (Amazing Spider-Man 20).
- Webspinners Tales of Spider-Man 07 – Has to take place before high school graduation (Amazing Spider-Man 28) and falling out with Liz (Amazing Spider-Man 26). An interesting continuity snag, Deadpool is on the cover of a magazine. 🙂

Webspinners Tales of Spiderman 1-3, happens after ASM 38. I think, because of Joe Smith appearence
Hi Viktor. You are correct, but see https://www.gabbinggeek.com/2015/12/16/spider-man-complete-chronology-update-6-2/ for my explanation as to why it is “missing”. If you don’t care about the “spoilers” that it introduces, you can definitely slot them as you said. It’s a struggle at times to decide if continuity inserts should be placed in chronological order or as flashbacks. In the end, I place them where I am comfortable with, but there is no right or wrong.
