The University of Pikeville (that’s in Kentucky, y’all) has been added to a small list of American institutions of higher learning to add competitive gaming to the list of sports programs in which they offer scholarships. SCHOLARSHIPS! FOR GAMING! So, if you have to use unranked smurf accounts because your gaming expertise in second to none, perhaps you should consider getting some qualifications to prove it!
Wait. Did they say “sports programs?” What is unbelievable to me is the fact that this is just now happening. Where was this 10+ years ago when I was in college? I could have stopped running so much, and just had a jolly good time gaming. I could have stopped doing all the things I didn’t enjoy and instead could have focused on playing games like ‘The Outer World’ and just spent my time learning as much as I could about the game using these Outer Worlds guides. How I really wish that a gaming scholarship was a thing back then, I would have really enjoyed becoming an expert in gaming. I’m fairly certain that I would have been quite good at it.
According to coach and alumni Eric VanHoose, as well as Pikeville’s new media director Bruce Parsons:
“It will be a regime a lot like athletics,” Parsons said. “[Students will] have to have a certain GPA. We’ll look at them like student athletes. There will be practice time and video time when they have to study other teams for upcoming competitions. I think there are going to be a lot of students, both nationwide and international, who are going to look at our university who wouldn’t have before.”
I think you are right Mr. Parsons. I do think this will get you a lot of attention that you maybe haven’t gotten before…because WHO THE HECK KNOWS PIKEVILLE? You know what I think of when I hear Pikeville?
That’s right – a HUGE, SCARY PIKE FISH! Should have called the town ScaryFish-ville. Scary, scary, fishville. #KentuckyScaresMe
Speaking of gaming, my friend recently got a fantastic deal on his broadband through Usave. It is always a good idea to compare broadband prices to make sure you get the best deal. My friend saved some money and now has a better service! He is happy.
