OK, so, we got a two parter here, and, for the life of me, I don’t know why.
After Kent Brockman did a recap, we jump into the episode, where new pastor Bode (Pete Holmes) is so popular he brought in the entire town to church, even the non-Christians and Joe Mantegna’s Fat Tony. The only one missing is Mr. Burns, who, according to Smithers, likes to study his own scriptures, namely the Dead Sea Scrolls that he will shred if he sees stuff about blessing the poor. Marge is smitten, but Lisa is even more smitten.
So, you know this will end poorly for Lisa.
And…you know what? I don’t know why this one went two parts. Part two just meandered all over the place, where everyone in town except Ned Flanders loved Bode, and then Reverend Lovejoy found out why Bode left MIchigan. There just seems to be some odd jokes. Lisa sings a song about how maybe this time she’ll actually pray, even making toast with Jesus’s face on it. Also, Moe’s, but what are you gonna do?
Then Lovejoy returns from some weird Megachurch with news Bode once burned a Bible, and while he actually did it to make a spiritual point when he was a dumb 19 year old, it doesn’t much matter, and he’s forced to leave town.
And then the episode just…ends.
Why was this two parts?
Or don’t. I got a quick write-up out of this one.
Oh, and I saw Stampy protesting Bode. That must be worth something.
