It’s been a busy couple of days for movie trailers.
First up, the latest for Kong: Skull Island.
My first thought, like many I’m sure is “do we really need another Kong movie?” And a lot of these attempts lately to revive these old franchises have met with disaster. (See The Long Ranger or Tarzan.) The last Kong movie from Peter Jackson was, if you can believe, 11 years ago, but it doesn’t seem like it.
My interest so far in this has been mostly “meh”, even with a stellar cast including Tom Hiddleston, Sam Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson and John C. Reilly. But I will give them props as this final trailer is really, really good. My interest level is moved up to “intrigued”.
Next up, Alien: Covenant.
I may be in the minority here, but I liked Prometheus. It was it’s own movie and did it’s own thing while loosely planting the seeds for the Alien franchise. I want to see more of that and what happened after the end of the film. Instead it seems like we are getting a very by the numbers Alien movie that just happens to be chronologically before director Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic.
That said, it is the first “real” Alien film that Scott has done since the original, with subsequent sequels having been helmed by James Cameron, David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (who?). So if anyone was going to do right by this film series it is Scott. And perhaps it will have stronger ties to Prometheus than what the trailers lead us to believe. That creepy Michael Fassbender is still there…
And finally, what you’ve all been waiting for, the newest trailer for Guradians of the Galaxy: Vol 2.
Another A+ trailer. Guardians has been knocking it out of the park since the first trailer for the first movie made you think, “Seriously, a Guardians of the Galaxy movie? … Man, that looks awesome…”
Luckily, the movie itself did not disappoint and lived up to the hype surrounding the trailers. Let’s hope this sequel can do the same.
